In 1972 I met someone at a rock concert in Puerto Rico who offered to fly me to Europe. After picking up a friend in New York City, he flew us all to Luxembourg, divided the money he had left, and went off to Amsterdam. His friend and I hitchhiked to India and he went back to America. I took a train to Madras, where I lost my passport and all my money.  I ended up walking around South India for two-and-a-half years, got caught and brought to the American embassy in Madras. I skipped out on them and went north, got caught again, and spent the next six months in a twelve-foot cell in Haldwani prison, before being deported back to America. Fifty years later, I finally got around to telling the whole story.
